Minister Kaushik Rai Reviews Issues of Fair Price Shop Dealers

Guwahati, August 31, 2026: Assam Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Minister Kaushik Rai chaired a meeting with representatives of the All Assam Fair Price Shop (FPS) Dealers’ Association at the Assam Secretariat on Monday to discuss various concerns of FPS dealers.

The meeting focused on the profit margin of FPS dealers, along with issues related to renewal of FPS licences, transfer of dealerships and other operational concerns.

Minister Rai acknowledged the important role of FPS dealers in ensuring the delivery of foodgrains and essential commodities to beneficiaries under the Public Distribution System (PDS). He assured the representatives that their genuine concerns would be examined.

The Minister directed concerned officials to examine the issues comprehensively and work towards practical solutions in accordance with the applicable rules and provisions. He also stressed the need to maintain an efficient and transparent PDS while addressing the legitimate concerns of dealers.

Senior officials, including Additional Chief Secretary Biswaranjan Samal, Commissioner Hemanta Bhuyan and Deputy Secretary Dipannita Das, were present at the meeting.
