PM Modi Highlights India’s Reform Push at ET World Leaders Forum

New Delhi, August 21, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Economic Times World Leaders Forum 2026, highlighting India’s economic growth, governance reforms and efforts to improve the ease of living and doing business.

PM Modi said the world increasingly sees India as a “bright spot for growth and hope” and stressed that the country is pursuing next-generation reforms at both policy and governance levels. He also highlighted political stability and continuity in government policies.

The Prime Minister pointed to the shift from a “prohibited unless permitted” approach to a “permitted unless prohibited” framework. He highlighted measures including the removal of more than 40,000 compliances and over 1,500 obsolete laws.

Highlighting the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, PM Modi said it has attracted ₹2.5 lakh crore in investments, generated ₹22 lakh crore in production and sales, and created more than 14 lakh jobs.

He also highlighted improvements in railway safety, digital services, telemedicine, transport and other areas as examples of reforms aimed at improving citizens’ everyday lives.

PM Modi stressed that major decisions should focus on long-term national development rather than short-term considerations. He cited initiatives such as PM-KUSUM and PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana as examples of reforms aimed at creating lasting benefits.

He said the government would continue its reform efforts for youth, women, farmers and the middle class, with the broader goal of building a developed India.
